West African Crocodile with Baby

West African Crocodile with Baby, wood, leather, cloth, pigment, 66" x 7". This piece refers to a well known West African myth about a mother crocodile carrying her baby across the river. Further ensuring its safety there is a protective amulet bag tied around the mother and child. There is a tinge of humor as baby crocodiles are themselves able to swim. Also, there is the question of how the mother crocodile was able to tie the amulet bag, seeing as how crocodiles have no fingers. Clever design, and attention to detail in the carving make this a particularly appealing work of art. Good condition.
