Salampasu, DRCongo 31"x10", wood, copper, feathers, palm raffia. The Salampasu have a somewhat fierce reputation as hunters and warriors. This mask is one of three types used in initiation rituals for hunters, warriors and chiefs. The bulging forehead, deeply set eyes, filed teeth and raffia beard are emblematic of Salampasu warrior masks. Good condition. This mask has significant age and to the best of our knowledge was made for use in the village.
