Silver on Cone

This silver thread is perfect for anyone who wants/needs to use it for one large or numerous projects and cannot afford to buy it in the smaller skeins. I have no idea what process was used to adhere the silver dust to the silk thread. One would think that it would be thick or grainy, but that is not the case. The thread is smooth when run between thumb an index finger and most important, it does not rub off. Despite its age, the thread is in perfect condition and is strong enough to be used on a machine. The silver dust is pure with nothing added to adulterate it.
How does one turn pure silver into dust? There are more questions than I have answers. Made in the early 1920's this thread, along with our 24k gold and pure platinum threads were used in the most fabulous of kimonos and obis and certainly used in the ceremonial kimonos, court presentation and wedding kimonos. This is your opportunity to own a piece of history with the extra benefit of beauty.
The thread is rare, actually, beyond rare. it has not been made since the 1920's and the only time it is found is when an old silk house closes and these threads are found in their inventory. Chances are, they had forgotten they even had it. I purchased my first lot ten years ago and have been searching for it ever since. Our Japanese buyer found some earlier this year, but we may never find any ever again so my advice is that if you want it, buy it now, for it may never be found again.
The 7 1/2" tall x 4" inches in diameter cone holds approximately 24,000 feet of thread which means that it costs approximately $6.00 per foot..
